RESEARCH
Research Interest
In addition to those who are called "zainichi koreans", people of various nationalities and ethnicities have been living in Japan, especially since the 1990s. Using macro analysis through statistics and micro analysis through observation and interviews, I aim to understand various problems that children with immigration background face with in the process of receiving education and finding employment in Japan. While learning about systems and practices related to the education of immigrant and refugee children, I’m analyzing the role of schools, families, and communities in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural society, how we can both promote diversity and equality/equity, and how the majority’s privilege (Japanese-ness) is constructed.
